Apple Music is coming to the world’s largest, most universal platform, today launching an all-new web app for the streaming music service. Previously, using Apple Music on a PC or Mac required installing the iTunes application.
Currently in beta, expanding Apple Music to the web makes it far more accessible for many people. It may also mean that Apple plans to move away from supporting iTunes on Windows once the new Music app supplants it on the Mac with macOS Catalina.
You have to be an existing Apple Music subscriber to use the web app. Apple says new users will eventually be able to sign up via the website.
What you can do right now, subscriber or not, is listen to audio previews and link directly to Apple Music web pages for albums and artists. This is a boon for social media marketing, because it means fans can preview and share your music without needing any app beyond a web browser. It also means easy, inline players for Facebook and HTML iframe embeds for websites.
We’re looking forward to the full release, later this year!
