Whether you know him from Drop ‘N Harmony, 6th Day or the top 24 of American Idol season 5, you know that Sway Peñala is a talented singer. His debut solo album My Story is out this week on CD and on iTunes, and he tapped Planet Hype to help him get it done.
JP Nebres, who produced both Pinay albums and the DnH album, lends production skills here as well. “I’m a Wreck”, “Better To Never”, “Say That (You Don’t Care)”, “Pacemaker” and “That Was Then” all bear the Beat Digga sound.
Glenn Gutierrez contributed audio mixing skills (read more about it on his blog), and pulled the album’s graphic design together, complete with new logos and collateral line art.
Although this is his first solo project, Sway is no stranger to the studio or stage. As a member of Drop ‘N Harmony, he was first featured on their self-titled album in 2000. Sway joined Kai and Innerlude alumni to form his next group 6th Day. They released his second group album Forever Starts Today in 2005, coinciding with his selection as a finalist on American Idol. After his departure from the show, Sway continued to tour with 6th Day until the group split in 2006. Sway also toured with fellow American Idol alum Elliott Yamin until deciding to start work on My Story in 2008.
Aside from the Planet Hype contributions from Nebres and Gutierrez, My Story also features the talents of Derrick Allen (Tyrese & Wayman Tisdale), Roland Casiquin & Brian White (Black Eyed Peas), Rodge Mamauag (Touch) and Matt Jennings.
