You don't have to miss Jocelyn Enriquez any more! Her nationwide breakout single "Do You Miss Me" is now available on iTunes in the new Digital 45 format.
The little song-that-could sold over 120,000 units from indie label Classified Records, according to official SoundScan reports. It peaked in December 1996 with a #49 position on the Hot 100 chart (the big one), but that was at Dance radio. It again climbed in early 1997, but now at Mainstream radio, with 798 BDS detections/week (over 18 million weekly listeners nationwide). Those are fancy industry numbers which basically mean that the song was amazingly successful for a small independent label from California.
In 2005, Blender magazine named "Do You Miss Me" one of the Greatest 500 Songs Since 1980, aptly describing it as "mournful—missing her boyfriend, the singer hears their favorite song and wonders if he misses her too—but the electronic beat seems to give her confidence, and the song turns into something closer to a taunt."
The personal impact may be better described in a letter received from famed dance music producer Carlos "After Dark" Berrios when "Do You Miss Me" reached New York City.
"I've been wanting to get in touch with you for some time to tell you how much I love the Jocelyn CD single, "Do You Miss Me". Once again you've created a well produced well thought out gem. Here in New York, I don't listen to the radio much. I dissaprove of the lack of attention alot new groups and great records have to endure. This song, however, is rocked all the time by WKTU."
