Since 1980, roughly 743,602 pop songs have been released. Blender magazine has picked 500 of the best. Planet Hype represents.
Coming in at number 239, "Do You Miss Me," as performed by Jocelyn Enriquez, was written and produced by Planet Hype co-founder Glenn Gutierrez. Blender writers are on the mark, too, describing the song as "mournful—missing her boyfriend, the singer hears their favorite song and wonders if he misses her too—but the electronic beat seems to give her confidence, and the song turns into something closer to a taunt."
The company is good, with a sprinkle of electro dance music from Shannon's "Let The Music Play" at number 465 to the original "Planet Rock" at 111 (properly credited with its Kraftwerk influence). "Do You Miss Me" and Company B's "Fascinated" are the only songs on the list credited as Latin Freestyle by name. Pop dance pioneers such as New Order, Madonna, Human League, Salt 'N Peppa and Depeche Mode are recognized for their 80's debuts, along with more recent flavors like Missy Elliot, Outkast, M.I.A and "Toxic" by Britney Spears.
At this time, you can view some of the entries online, but you'll need to pick up the October issue of Blender to read them all.
